In a centrifuge, especially a continuously operating sugar centrifuge, a device for deflecting molasses from the outside of a screen plate insert 5 thereof has a deflecting lip 9 on the outer surface of a reinforcing ring 8 surrounding the plate 5. The ring bears against a packing ring 10, fitted on a supporting lip 4 of the centrifuge drum 1 and into a circumferential groove 11 in the ring 8. The screen plate is supported by ribs 6 inside the drum. In a modification, the deflecting lip is formed by a bead pressed out of the screen plate and the plate bears at its upper edge directly on the supporting lip of the drum.
