Abstract

1,040,699. Sinks combined with garbage shredders. ZACHARIAH PARKES Ltd. Dec. 13, 1962 [Dec. 14, 1961], No. 44721/61. Heading A4N. [Also in Division B2] A garbage shredder (see Division B1-B2) includes means for securing it to a sink outlet. The receiver inlet 11, Fig. 1, extends upwardly as a cylindrical extension 14 having an external non-circular flange 15 engageable between lower and upper clamping rings 16, 17 drawn together by studs 18. The upper clamping ring 17 is formed with an internally-threaded opening 19 to receive a screw-threaded cylindrical extension 20 of a sink bush, and is formed at its upper end with a radially tapering external flange 21 below which is located a rubber sealing ring 22 and a lower sealing, clamping ring 23. The ring 17 is engageable by studs 24 extending upwardly so that their heads 25 engage the ring 23 and clamp the boundary of a sink opening between the flange 21 and the sealing ring 22. A rubber sealing ring 26 is located so that when the upper and lower rings 17, 16 are drawn together this ring is pressed against the lower annular face of the extension 20. A cup 27 having a central stem 30 engages a step 29 on the extension, and the inlet is closed by a plug 31. The sealing ring 26 is in the form of a dished disc, the central portion being divided by radial slits to permit water and solids to pass downwards into the receiver.
