961,649. Producing hollow beams; bending; joining metal sheets. EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURING Inc. Feb. 22, 1963 [March 12, 1962], No. 7178/63. Headings B3A, B3E and B3J. A composite sheet metal beam comprises two sheet metal components of channelshaped cross-section, the webs of the components interengaging to form the side walls of the beam. Figs. 9, 14 and 17 show successive bending steps on sheets 20a and 20b between roll passes of varying shapes, the final jointing of the beam being indicated in Fig. 1. The sheets are initially formed separately in parallel roller trains, and are then run into a single train for the jointing operation.
