961,609. Filter-presses. BRITISH FILTERS Ltd. Oct. 22, 1962 [Dec. 12, 1961], No. 44506/61. Heading B1D. A filter press comprises an assembly of filter plates and an electrical heating element located outside the assembly and arranged to heat the plates so that sterilization thereof may be effected without dismantling the press. The filter plates may be parallel and a heating element located at one or both ends of the assembly. Such a filter-press comprises a fixed head a (Fig. 1) connected by tie-bars to a cross-beam which carries moving head d and filter plates e. Heads a and d as well as the filter-plates are provided with channels so that liquid flowing in at h is directed to filter mats, passes through them, and is discharged at i. Heads a and d are provided with heating elements j (Fig. 4), the supply to each coming from control box k connected to mains. The press may be heated to a predetermined temperature for a predetermined time, the sequence of events being initiated by controls m and n during sterilization of the filter-press, liquid outlet i is replaced by stopper o.
