Abstract

961,579. Weighing apparatus. W. WESTWOOD & SONS Ltd. Jan. 25, 1963 [Nov. 16,1961], No. 41063/61. Heading G1W. In a fluid pressure operated indicator system of a weighing apparatus a bellows 1 communicates by a tube 8 with a weigh platform (not shown). The top 2 of the bellows is rigidly attached to a stationary framework while the bottom rests on a knife edge 10 on a second order lever 11 pivoted at 12, 13. Expansion of the bellows due to fluid pressure therein caused by a load on the weigh platform is communicated through this lever 11 to a further second order lever 21 and from thence to a spring or springs 29 to 32 which provide the reaction to the bellows pressure. The springs are attached at their upper ends to a stationary framework and at their lower ends are coupled by a movable cross member 28 to the lever system. A rack 43 on the cross member 28 engages a pinion 45 to move a pointer 47. The springs are operated in a range in which their extension is in linear relation to the load applied to them and thus to the pressure in the bellows. Movement of the lever linkage is such that the extension of a spring shall be at least ten times that of the bellows. The fluid may be air.
