[Class 143] A portable platform type of device for weighing the wheel pressures of road vehicles, aeroplanes &c. comprises a weighing lever connected to a load-balancing spring, means for restricting the movements of the lever to substantially the balancing position, means for transmitting a multiplied movement to a balance-indicating pointer, means for stressing the spring in order to return the lever to balancing position after loading the platform and means for measuring the deflection of the spring and indicating the same in terms of the load. Compound levers 22, 35 support the platform, and the lower end of a helical spring 46 is connected to one end of the lever 35. The upper end of the spring is attached to a slidable nut 55, supported by a micrometer screw 56 the head 5 of which is graduated in lbs. A stop 42 restricts the movements of the levers and platform to close proximity to the balancing position. This position is indicated at a window 85 by an indicator 82 which is pivoted on a knife-edge 81 and is given a multiplied movement in relation to the lever system by means of a vertical yoke 75 resting on the pointed top of a rod 72 supported on the lever 35. In balancing the pressure of a wheel on the platform, the operator rotates the head 5 to stress the spring until the indicator 82 shows that the lever system ds in balancing position A rack 61 secured to the sliding nut 55 actuates an indicator strip 66 viewed through a window 67. The indicator strip registers the complete rotations of the graduated head 5, the load being obtained by adding together the readings of the strip and head. Ramps are provided to run the wheel up to the platform.
