Abstract
N-Chloroalkyl-2-oxazolidones of formula <FORM:0960597/C1/1> where R1 is a chlorine-containing C2- 10 alkyl radical and R2 is hydrogen or C1-8 alkyl which may be substituted by chlorine are prepared by reacting a secondary chlorinated aliphatic amine of formula <FORM:0960597/C1/2> or a salt thereof with a water soluble salt of a carbonic acid in an aqueous medium at a temperature from room temperature to the boiling point of the reaction mixture. Preferably 1 mol of an alkali metal bicarbonate is used with 1 mol of an amine salt and sufficient sodium hydroxide to liberate the free amine: alternatively 2 mols of alkali metal carbonate may be reacted with 1 mol of amine salt. Examples describe the preparation of N-(2-chloroethyl)-, N-(2-chloropropyl)-, N-(3-chloropropyl)- and N-(2-chloropropyl)-5-methyl-2-oxazolidones. Specification 972,304 is referred to.
