A shower head comprises a bell-shaped body 20, Fig. 4, having a water inlet 21 at the smaller end thereof and a water outlet opening 22 at the larger end thereof, a circular face member 24 mounted transversely inside said body intermediate said inlet and outlet openings, said face member defining an annular opening between its periphery and the inner surface of the body to provide a discharge port for water which in operation forms an outer water curtain, and water discharge or water deflector means to provide a water shower within the area enclosed by said outer water curtain. In Figs. 2, 4, 5 and Figs, 1, 3 (not shown) the position of face member 24 is axially adjustable to provide an annular opening 27 between it and the body 20. The face member has a series of vanes 28 thereon and tapered annular slots 30, 31 cut therein so that the vanes hold the face member divisions together. In operation water flows into the upper chamber behind the face plate and is discharged through the opening 27, being given a swirling motion by the vanes 28 which tends to force the water against and around the lower interior surface of body 20, and water is also discharged through the annular slits 30, 31. In a second embodiment, Figs. 6, 7, 8 (not shown) the vanes are omitted and the face member divisions are held together by lugs. In a third embodiment, Figs. 9, 10, 11 (not shown) there are short straight vanes to give the water an outward swirling motion and instead of the annular slots there are radial slots. A fourth embodiment, Figs. 12, 13 (not shown) is similar to the first, but instead of the slots 30, 31 there are deflectors formed on the inner surface of the bell to deflect some of the discharging water inwardly toward the centre of the shower.
