Abstract

959,901. Power presses. E. W. BLISS (ENGLAND) Ltd. June 25, 1962 [Aug. 2. 1961], No. 28019/61. Heading B3H. A power press has a plurality of die-carrying tables 1 any one of which may be preselected to be moved automatically into position above the press bolster, lowered on to the bolster and clamped thereto. The tables have wheels running along rails and are traversed by a chain drive driven through a worm reducing gear and an electromagnetic clutch and brake, by an electric motor. To start a die change operation the existing table is first unclamped by fluidpressure cylinders 4, positioning stops 7, 8 are retracted by fluid cylinders 5, 6, the table is raised by wedges operated by fluid cylinders 3 and the tables are traversed to bring the preselected one above the bolster. Then the operations of lowering, centring and clamping are performed automatically, and an interlock 22 is tripped to permit operation of the press. Hydraulic or pneumatic fluid may be used and an electrical control system with limit switches and solenoid-actuated valves is described.
