Abstract
Elastic diapers comprise a multi-layer sheet of loosely woven fabric having a common selvedge along two parallel edges for all layers and a non-ravelable construction formed along the other two edges, the warp and weft yarns for all said layers having been shrunk in an unrestricted manner to produce a relatively high degree of elasticity in the diaper in all directions. The elastic diaper material may comprise a multi-layer sheet of loosely woven fabric that has been shrunk in all directions in an unrestricted manner by continuously feeding a strip of fabric in a free loop form through a shrinking fluid bath at a rate sufficient to prevent any shrinking in the bath and supporting the strip so as to allow unrestricted shrinking in all directions when out of the bath (see Division D1). The multi-layer sheet may have selvedges common to all layers at each longitudinal edge and the yarns of adjacent layers are interwoven at equally spaced intervals longitudinally of the sheet to form bars of unravelable fabric; the diapers may be formed by severing this sheet midway of each of the bars.
