Abstract

959,554. Control systems for vehicle lighting. C.A.V. Ltd. Jan. 11, 1961 [Jan; 18, 1960] , No. 1697/60. Heading H2H. A vehicle lighting system comprising a headlamp having main and dipped beam filaments is provided with means whereby when the headlamp is initially switched on the dipped beam filament is energized irrespective of the position of the dip switch. The apparatus includes a relay having an operating winding 6 and a holding winding 13 together with a normally open contact 8 and a normally closed contact 11. Further the current flowing in the main beam filament 1 when resistor 7 and/or winding 6 is in series therewith is insufficient to cause illumination of the main beam. Thus, when the headlamp switch 9 is closed the dipped beam filament 1 will be illuminated irrespectively of the dip switch 12. Thereafter, operation of the dip switch 12 will cause illumination of the main and dipped beam filaments alternatively. Lamp 14 provides an indication of main beam illumination.
