Abstract

959,487. Automatic temperature alarms. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Sept. 11, 1961 [Sept. 14, 1960], No. 32541/61. Heading G4N. A temperature responsive device to indicate when frozen goods reach a predetermined temperature comprises a glow discharge tube 6 connected in parallel with a temperature sensitive resistor 4 and to the A. C. mains through a series resistor 5, the arrangement being that the tube 6 normally glows during alternate half-cycles of the supply, but when the temperature inside the box 1 rises to a certain level the value of resistor 4 has decreased to such an extent that tube 6 is extinguished. The tube 6 may, alternatively, be connected across the resistor 5 to indicate rise to a predetermined temperature. A potentiometer 7 is connected between the resistors 4, 5 the glow-tube being connected to the tapping thereof for setting the temperature at which the indicator will respond.
