959,066. Friction drop hammers. SAMUEL PLATT Ltd. May 14, 1963 [April 17, 1962], No. 14782/62. Heading B3H. A friction drop hammer has its tup raised by a flexible belt 3 extending around a continuously rotating pulley 4 and pressed into frictional engagement therewith by fluid pressure means 5, 6 controlled by the tup so as to be engaged when the latter is at the bottom of its stroke and released when the tup is at the top of its stroke. Roller 5 is advanced and retracted by double-acting compressed air motor 6. The tup can be held in its raised position by a pressure plate 10 actuated through toggle linkage 11 and bell-crank 14 by a double-acting compressed air motor 13. Limit switches S 1 , S 2 , S 3 , Fig. 2 (not shown), are actuable by the tup at the top, bottom and intermediate stroke positions, whereby repetitive long and short strokes can be performed as selected by a foot-treadle. An electro-pneumatic control system is described.
