958, 958. Photo-electric spectrometers. OFFICE NATIONAL D'ETUDES ET DE RECHERCHES AEROSPATIALES. May 24, 1960 [June 1, 1959], No. 45479/63. Divided out of 958,957. Heading G1A. [Also in Division G2] The spectrometer has a polarizer 43, plane polarized light from which is incident on a plate made up of two lenses 14,15 of bi-refringent material cemented together with the interface in the focal plane of a collimator 11. The collimated light is dispersed at 10 and focused by lens 12 on the interface of another plate made up of bi-refringent lenses 30, 31 before passing through rotatable analyser 44 to a radiation detector 45 coupled to an amplifier 46,tuned to the frequency of rotation of the analyser. The plane face of each lens is parallel to the bi-refringent axis and in each plate the bi-refringent axis of one lens is perpendicular to that of the other, the lenses of one plate being in reversed order to the lenses of the other plate. The polarising axis of the polariser 43 is inclined at 45 degrees to the bi-refringent axes of the lenses 14 and 15. The lenses of each plate are spherical or cylindrical. In a modification only one bi-refringent lens is provided in each plate the other lens being of isotropic material.
