Abstract

958,072. Endless conveyers. EASTWOODS Ltd., and J. PAISLEY. Oct. 31, 1962 [Oct. 31, 1961], No. 38965/61. Heading B8A. In transferring raw bricks from a conveyer 10 to a stepby-step moving marshalling platform 11, the conveyer 10 operating periodically in time with the platform 11 so as to deposit successive rows 48 of bricks on the platform 11, the leading brick on the conveyer 10 is separated from the last brick of the last deposited row 48, by the action of clamping members 44. The faces of the latter are inclined at a small angle to the axis of the conveyer 10 so that as the members 44 engage the brick it is thus given a slight twisting movement which causes it to break cleanly away from the last brick of the row 48. The members 44 are carried respectively by a fixed member 17 and a member 18 carried by slides 39 (Fig. 1) and displaceable by a ram of an hydraulic motor 19. The latter is energized in synchronism with an hydraulically operated clutch 14 (Fig. 7) which controls the drive of the conveyer 10. This mechanism is controlled by a valve V5 which is actuated by a solenoid " X " energized by the action of any one of limit switches LS1-LS4 according to a predetermined number of bricks fed on to the platform 11. The latter is moved step-bystep as described in Specification 849,805 by an indexing wheel 50 engaged by a pawl 52 displaced by a fluid motor 54. The valve V5 is reset by the action of the index arm 53. In Fig. 3, the axis of the motor 19 is normal to the axis of the conveyer 10. In a modification (Figs. 5, 6, not shown), the axis of the motor 19 is normal to the faces of the clamping members 44.
