Abstract

A thermosealable coated film comprises a polyethylene terephthalate film coated on one or both sides with a vinyl chloride copolymer containing at least 50% of vinyl chloride and may be produced by coating the film with a solution or dispersion of the vinyl chloride copolymer and then removing the diluent of the solution or dispersion. The copolymer may be a copolymer of vinyl chloride with a vinyl, halogenated vinyl, acrylic, methacrylic, allyl, olefinic and/or halogenated olefinic monomer, e.g. vinyl acetate, butyl acrylate, 2-ethylhexylacrylate, methylmethacrylate, acrylonitrile, maleic anhydride, or vinylidene chloride, or a mixture of two or more thereof. The copolymer may be of vinyl chloride/2-ethylhexylacrylate/methyl methacrylate in the proportions 70/25/5; vinyl chloride/2-ethylhexylacrylate/acrylonitrile in the proportions 70/25/5; or vinyl chloride/butylacrylate/acrylonitrile in the proportions 65/30/5. The copolymer may be employed together with another vinyl chloride copolymer containing at least 50% vinyl chloride, e.g. vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer. The copolymer solution or dispersion may contain a plasticizer, stabilizer, pigment and/or filler.
