Abstract

957,806. Oil break switches; mechanical switches. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Dec. 31, 1962 [Jan. 15,1962], No. 1434/62. Heading H2B. A change-over switch immersed in oil in a tank 15 has main and auxiliary roller contacts 11, 24 mounted on copivotal arms 12, 26 having a lost-motion coupling between them and engaging spring-urged fixed contacts 17 or 17<SP>1</SP> and 25 or 25<SP>1</SP> respectively. The switch is operated through an overcentre toggle linkage 21, 22 operating on the main contact arm 12 directly and the auxiliary contact arm 26 through the pin and slot coupling 23, 27. The surfaces of the auxiliary contact rollers 24, 25, 25<SP>1</SP> is of arc resistant material. In a transformer tap-changing switchgear (Fig. 2, not shown) two such change-over switehes are operated in sequence, by a common shaft 20, as a diverter switch. A modification involves the use of spring-loaded butt contacts in place of the rollers &c.
