Abstract

A germicidal detergent composition comprises a soap or non-soap surface active agent and as active ingredient 1-hydroxy-2-pyridine thione or a salt thereof or 2,21-dithiopyridine-1,11-dioxide. Specified anionic surface active agents are the sodium, potassium, ammonium and alkyl ammonium salts of C10-C20 fatty acids; alkyl glyceryl ether sulphonates; alky sulphates; alkyl monoglyceride sulphates or sulphonates; alkyl polyethanoxy ether sulphates; acyl sarcosinates; sulphonated C16 petroleum hydrocarbons; sodium alkyl naphthalene sulphonate; diamyl sodium sulphosuccinate; mixed polyphosphates; acyl esters of isethionates; acyl N-methyl taurides; alkyl benzene sulphonates and alkyl phenol polyethanoxy sulphonates. The alkyl and acyl groups contain 10 to 20 carbon atoms and the compounds are used as their sodium, potassium ammonium and alkylol ammonium salts. Specified cationic detergents are dilauryl dimethyl ammonium chloride; diisobutyl phenoxy ethoxyethyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chlorides; cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide; N-cetyl pyridinium bromide and benzethonium chloride. Specified amphoteric detergents are long chain fatty acid amides containing several amine groups; alkyl beta imino dipropionates of alkyl beta amino propionates wherein the alkyl group has 10 to 20 carbon atoms and imidazoline derivatives of the Miranol class. Specified nonionic detergents are ethylene oxide condensates of solution fatty acids, lauryl alcohol and polypropylene and polyoxyethylene ether. The compositions may be used as shampoos, bars or powders. Other specified ingredients are paraffin, sodium chloride, sodium sulphate, acetylated lanolin, perfumes, colours, thickeners, e.g. sodium carboxy methyl cellulose, opacifiers, suds builders, preservatives, antistatic agents, binders, emollients and fillers.ALSO:A germicidal composition comprises a soap or non-soap surface-active agent and as active ingredient 1-hydroxy-2-pyridine thione or a salt thereof or 2,21-dithiopyridine-1,11-dioxide. Specified salts are the sodium, zinc, iron, lithium, potassium, magnesium, barium, calcium, strontium, cadmium, aluminium and lead, or cetyl ammonium salts of 1-hydroxy-2-pyridine thione. A shampoo composition containing phenyl mercuric acetate and the active ingredient specified above is described. Numerous anionic, non-ionic, cationic and amphoteric surface-active agents and mixtures thereof are specified. The composition may be in the form of a liquid, bar or powder. The compositions may also contain paraffin, colours, perfumes, emollients, binders and inert fillers.
