In a fluid-flow measuring system the shaft of a fluid-flow meter is coupled to an electromagnetic pulse generator 18, 19, Fig. 3, via a worm .gear and a lost motion connection comprising a pin 26 on the meter shaft and a projection 23 on the rotor 18, the arrangement being such that as the meter shaft rotates the pin 26 pushes the rotor 18 round half a revolution until it reaches the position where a spring is fully extended and then the spring jerks the rotor suddenly through the next half revolution inducing a pulse in an output coil, which pulse is transmitted to a remote counter.
