A fastener device comprises a metal fastener element 12 positioned in a sleeve or envelope 10 of synthetic plastic material, the fastener element comprising a ring shaped base 24 having opposed arm 26 extending from one side thereof with the ends remote from the base joined by a connecting member 28 having its medial portion bent inwardly to extend towards the base, the sleeve or envelope 10 comprising hollow fastener element-receiving portion 18 formed with an annular outwardly extending flange 14 at one end, the ring shaped base 24 of the fastener element 12 abutting the base of the flange 14 of the sleeve or envelope 10 and the arms 26 and connecting member 28 being disposed in the hollow fastener element-receiving portion, the inwardly bent medial portion of the connecting member 28 being capable of being forced outwardly away from the base so as to be flattened into a substantially straight line condition whereby the arms are displaced outwardly to expand the wall of the sleeve or envelope for enabling the fastener device to be secured in an aperture 32 in a support 30. As shown, in which a moulding strip 34 is snapengaged with the base 14, the member 28 is flattened to the position shown by means of a tool applied to exert pressure on the apex of the member 28. The fastener may be released by a tool having a wedge-shaped end applied against the flattened member 28 in a direction away from the base 24.
