Abstract

955,784. Toys. M. I. GLASS, [trading as MARVIN GLASS & ASSOCIATES]. Oct. 12, 1962 [Nov. 1, 1961], No. 38783/62. Heading A6S. A target toy is propelled by means of an electric motor 59 the circuit to which is completed when a missile, e.g. a ball strikes either of two target members 123, 139 so that the toy is caused to move in one of two directions. The toy comprises a platform 33 covered by a hollow shell 35 which extends below the platform to form a chamber in which balls are retained after impact, and which carries a movable member 43 and tongue 47. Target member 123 includes a downwardly extending target section 127 and has an arm 121 carrying a contact blade 101 which holds a switch 95 in the motor circuit in its open position. A direction change switch 97 is also included in the circuit and is held in rearward drive position by an arm 137 extending rearwardly from target member 139. When target section 127 is hit by a missile it moves against the action of spring 129 to displace arm 121 thereby closing switch 95 to energize the motor so that the toy moves rearwardly, means being provided to simultaneously cause the member 43 to move to its " open-mouth " position and the tongue 47 to project forwardly. When target member 139 is hit, it pivots to move switch 97 to a forward drive position and also engages and moves target member 123 to close switch 95. The toy therefore moves forwardly. Means are provided to prevent immediate return of target members 123, 139 to their rest positions, whereby the toy is caused to travel a predetermined distance. Means are also provided for producing sound effects when the motor is energized, the effects varying according to the direction of travel.
