TAKE-APART PULL TOY` Filed Jan. 15, 1968 sheet 2 of 2 1N wswrak 2 'abJvEy A. 22R E50/v United States Patent Oice 3,439,445 TAKE-APART PULL TOY Sidney A. Tarrson, 777 S. Tripp St., Chicago, Ill. 60624 Filed Jau. 15, 1968, Ser. No. 697,961 Int. Cl. A63h 33/06 U.S. Cl. 46-17 6 Claims ABSTRACT F THE DISCLOSURE A pull toy having individual take-apart structural members which separately provide related toys that can be used individually or in conjunction with the remaining structural members, each structural member having cooperative surfaces by which they are joined and secured together, and which when arranged into an integral toy complement each other to produce a novel overall appearance.
Summary of invention A take-apart pull toy of related individual toy members which when assembled simulates a comical caricature of an animals face. The take-apart pull toy comprises a plurality of individual components which form a scoop, a carrying bucket, a strainer and a wheeled or slidable truck-like structure, with each of the components providing abutting surfaces cooperating to hold in an assembled relation such components so as to form a fanciful-appearing toy.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings showing the preferred form of construction and in which:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the take-apart pull toy in its assembled condition.
FIG. 2 is a detailed sectional View taken on line 2-2 of FIG. 1.
FIG. 3 is a perspective view of the individual components of the take-apart toy in their disassembled relation; and
FIG. 4 is a fragmentary detailed sectional view taken on line 4-4 of FIG. 3.
As generally shown in the drawings, the take-apart toy includes a molded one-piece hollow base 10, divided by a center wall 11 into front and rear compartments 12 and 13, as shown in FIG. 3. The bottom wall 14 of the base is longitudinally divided by a raised` center rib 15 which defines underside rails 16. The slide rails 16 are provided with wheel wells 17 which have their side walls slotted as at 18 so as to frictionally receive a shaft 19, which in turn rotatably supports a wheel member 20, as specifically shown in FIG. 4.
The base 10 has an upwardly curved front wall 21, having formed therein a cut out, as at 22, that receives a portion of the Hat bottom wall 23 of a front cover piece 24, as seen in FIGS. 1 and 2.
The fiat bottom wall 23 of the front cover piece 24 terminates into a rear wall 25 which as shown in FIG. 2 is generally tapered rearwardly and upwardly until it forms a shoulder 26 and then is reversely tapered until its junction with the partial top walls 27 provided by the front cover piece 24.
Side walls 28 extend vertically from the longitudinal edges of the bottom wall 23, and together with the rear wall 25 form a compartment 29, the purpose of which will be hereinafter made apparent.
The side walls 28 provide horizontal ilanges 30 which extend rearwardly and upwardly until they join the top walls 27 as seen in FIG. 3. The anges 30 and the top walls 27 are provided with side walls 31 which have protruding downwardly tapered sections 32 which in turn 3,439,445 Patented Apr. 22, 1969 join like protrusions 33 formed on the side walls 34 of the base 10 to form a part of the caricature which will result from the assembly of the components of the takeapart toy as seen in FIG. 1.
Each of the top walls 27 are provided with a reduced raised platform 35, the purpose and function of which will be hereinafter described.
A scoop 36 is formed from a nose piece which provides a at bottom surface 37 and side wall edges 38 tapered to conform to the taper formed in the rear wall 25 of the base 10. The nose piece is adapted to be positioned within the compartment 29 formed in the front cover piece 24 as seen in FIGS. 1 and 2. The nose piece is so constructed that it lies in a raised relation with respect to the horizontal anges 30 hereinbefore described. The scoop 36 or nose piece provides a top wall 39 which in turn carries a protruding block 40. The construction is such that when the scoop 36, or nose piece, is placed in the compartment 29 the top wall 39 thereof will be in horizontal alignment with the top walls 27 of the front cover piece 24 and with its block 40 in alignment with the raised platforms 35 of the top walls 27.
A simulated hat member 41 comprising a generally rectangularly shaped hollow body 42 provides an o en bottom defined by side walls 43 and end walls 44 which have their peripheral inner edges notched to provide, a continuous shoulder 45 which in turn will embrace the raised platforms 35 and block 40 provided by the front cover piece 24 and the scoop 35, respectively, in a manner shown in FIGS. 1 and 2. The opposite end of the hollow body 42 of the simulated hat 41 is perforated as at 46 to form a screen funnel which may be used separately as such.
The rear compartment 13 of the base 10l receives a bucket 47, the bottom wall 48 of which provides reduced base sections 49 which frictionally engage the inner Wall surfaces of the body 10 and wall 11 that define the rear compartment 13, as seen in FIG. 2.
The bucket 47 is divided into compartments by a center wall 50 which is provided with a cutout portion 51 so as to provide a carrying handle 52 therefor.
From the foregoing it is evident that I have provided a take-apart toy which when in its assembled conidtion resembles a caricature of a dog, and which when the individual components are separated form usable toys which can be individually used, or used in conjunction with one another. In the event that it is desired to con struct the toy without the wheels 20, the slide rails 16 formed as a part of the bottom wall t14 of the base 10 will permit the toy to be slidably pulled in the same manner as if it were provided with the wheels 20.
Having thus described my invention, what |I claim as newt and desired to protect by Letters Patent is:
1. A take-apart pull toy simulating an animal caricature when fully assembled comprising:
(a) a hollow compartmentized base member,
(b) a front cover piece for a compartment of the base simulating a portion of an animals face,
(c) a nose shaped scoop removably carried by said front cover piece and cooperating therewith to complete the simulated caricature of an animal head,
(d) means provided by said base member and said front cover piece for removably supporting said nose shaped scoop in said front cover piece and on said base member,
(e) an overlaying top member engageable with portions of said front cover picee and said nose shaped scoop for holding the same in an assembled relation upon said base member,
(f) means provided by said front cover piece and said nose shaped scoop cooperating with means provided by said top member for securing said nose shaped scoop to said front cover piece in an assembled relation, and
(g) a pail-like structure removably carried by the other compartment of said base member and forming a cover therefor.
2. A take-apart pull toy as defined by claim 1 wherein said base member is further characterized by providing in the bottom wall thereof wheel wells in which are rotatably mounted wheels.
3. A take-apart pull toy as delined by claim 1 wherein the means provided by said base member and said front cover piece for removably supporting said nose shaped scoop includes a cut out portion formed in the top edge of the front wall of said base member of a size to receive a depressed portion of said front cover piece which in turn carries said nose shaped scoop.
4. A take-apart pull toy as defined by claim 3 wherein said base member is further characterized by providing in the bottom wall thereof wheel wells in which are rotatably mounted wheels.
5. A take-apart pull toy as dened by claim 1 wherein said means provided by said front cover piece and said nose shaped scoop which cooperate with means provided by said top member for securing the parts together in an assembled relation comprise aligned raised portions of a size less than the combined tops of said front cover piece and said nose shaped scoop insertable in a peripheral groove provided by the bottom edges of said overlaying top member.
6. A take-apart pull toy as defined by claim 5 wherein said base member is further characterized by providing in the bottom wall thereof wheel wells in which are rotatably mounted wheels.
