Abstract
955,531. Dispensing liquids. CORNELIUS CO. June 26, 1962 [April 4, 1962], No. 24552/62. Heading A4T. [Also in Division F2] A dispensing device for a carbonated liquid includes a housing 52, Fig. 7, having a passageway 53 adapted to be connected at its upstream end 52a to a supply of liquid and at the outlet end to discharge such liquid, a valve member 56 disposed in the passageway, a stem 61 slidably supported by the housing and joined to the valve member at its inner end and extending outwardly of the housing at its outer end, and an actuator button 63 secured to the outer end of the stem for moving the valve member to an open position, the housing having a vent passage 65 which extends from a point in the passageway downstream of the valve member to a point on the housing disposed above the passageway outlet and open to the atmosphere. The button is loaded by a spring 68 and has a valve face 67 to close the vent 65 when the valve member 56 is open. Internal splines 63a reduce friction. A hose 51 with a bore of 0.1 inches and a length of 18 inches is connected at one end to the liquid supply and at the other to the housing 52 by a screwed member 55 which together with the valve member 56 and housing defines a passageway whose flow area increases so that each increment is equal to or slightly greater than the last. The housing is formed with a storage hook 73. In Fig. 1, five valve members incorporated in a single device are each connected by a separate hose reinforced by braided wire 16 and having a bore of one eighth inch with a length of three feet to a separate liquid supply each valve having a resilient clip 44, Fig. 2, to identify the supply it controls. The hoses are contained in a plastic tube 21 closed at each end by a nipple 22. One end of the tube is connected by a strain-relieving cover 48 to the housing 12 for the valve members while one end of each hose is clamped at 18 to a connector 13, a single plate 31 serving to secure all the connectors. The stem 35 of each valve member 15 is slidably guided on a number of ridges 76 in the housing and is secured to a hexagonal actuator button 37 having a face 42 to close the vent 40. Water flows through the passages between the ridges 76 when the device is held inverted under a tap or immersed in a paid of watr for cleaning.
