Abstract
955,358. Internal furnace charge supports. HENRY WIGGIN & CO. Ltd. Dec. 21, 1962 [Dec. 22, 1961], No. 46062/61. Heading F4B. A suspension bar 1 mounted on carrier rails (not shown) for propulsion through a furnace, carries two sliding support blocks 2 and 3 each pivotally carrying side members both comprising freely swinging upper arms 4 and lower arms 5, respectively, attached by members 10 and 14 to a metal sheet 9, thrust members 7 and 13 slidingly mounted on each arm 4 being operative to increase the distance between points of attachment of the sheet to the arms 4 and 5 by causing said arms to swing outwardly. Thrust member 7 bears against the face of a fixed abutment 8 in the support block and thrust member 13 bears against the upper part of arm 5. In use the support blocks are racked apart until the sheet is taut, and on heating the sheet, slackness caused by expansion is taken up by outward movement of the arms 4 and 5 caused by downward gravitational movement of the thrust members 7 and 13. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), thrust members 7 are dispensed with, the upper arms 4 being rigidly attached to the blocks.
