Abstract
Pigment/polymer masterbatches are prepared by mixing an aqueous mass of pigment with a stable aqueous emulsified polyvinyl chloride or vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate copolymer, coagulating the mixture at a temperature ranging from the ambient to the boil, removing the aqueous phase from the coagulum and drying the solid so obtained. Optionally a known texture-improving agent such as finely divided calcium carbonate, pale American rosin or a cresol/formaldehyde resin may be added. The solid product may also be pulverised after drying. In examples the pigment dispersion is used to colour vinyl chloride polymers and nitrocellulose solutions.ALSO:Pigment/polyvinyl chloride or pigment/vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer master batches (see Division C3) are dispersed in vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate/maleic anhydride copolymer or nitrocellulose solutions which may be sprayed, spread or printed on to aluminium foil, polyvinyl chloride film, or metal panels.
