Abstract

Microporous sheets are obtained by mixing polyvinyl chloride powder of up to 150m diameter, a plasticizer and powdered sodium chloride in an amount at least equal to 1 1/2 to not more than 4 times the weight of polyvinyl chloride, the particle size of the sodium chloride for a sheet of 1 to 5 mils. thickness being 5 to 10 m , and for a sheet of 6 mils. thickness and above, 8010 to m , and a volatile solvent for the plasticizer which is not a solvent for the polyvinyl chloride, thereby producing a cream which is spread on a carrier, the solvent removed at 90 DEG C., the sheet obtained heated to cause gelling, then cooled, the sodium chloride leached out and the sheet dried. Solvents specified are white spirit and naphtha. Specifications 565,022, 727,679 and 844,801 are referred to.ALSO:Microporous sheets, are obtained by mixing polyvinyl chloride powder of up to 150 m diameter, a plasticizer and powdered sodium chloride in an amount at least equal to one and a half to not more than four times the weight of the polyvinyl chloride, the particle size of the sodium chloride for a sheet of 1 to 5 mils thickness being 5 to 10m , and for a sheet of 6 mils thickness and above, 10 to 80 m , and a volatile solvent for the plasticizer which is not a solvent for the polyvinyl chloride, thereby producing a cream which is spread on a carrier, the solvent removed at 90 DEG C., the sheet obtained heated to cause gelling, then cooled, the sodium chloride leached out and the sheet dried. The specified solvents are white spirit or naphtha. The gelling results in the production of a pervious sheet so that the salt is readily leached out. Specifications 565,022, 727,679 and 844,801 are referred to.
