A pressure relief valve has an annular base member of rubber or rubber-like material, which member has inner and outer flanges 1b, 1d, the upper face 1c of the former being bevelled to form an inner acute-angled annular seat. A cup-shaped casing 4 is secured to the space 1a between the flanges 1b, 1d by an annular plate 5 with radial tongues 5a. A spherically-faced moving closure member 3 is urged on to the seat by a spring 6; the member 3 is of low-friction synthetic plastic material, e.g. polytrifluoromonochloroethylene, fluorinated ethylene, propylene or polytetrafluoroethylene. The member 3 controls the flow of fluid between an inlet 2 and a vent outlet 7. An auxiliary closure member 11 which seats on the member 3, opens in the opposite direction to the latter and controls fluid flow through a port 10 therein also leading from the inlet 2 to the outlet 7. The member 11 is made of rubber or rubber-like material and is loaded to the closed position by a spring 13 around the integral valve stem 12. The flexible base member 1, which is bolted around the outlet of a vehicle radiator header tank, serves as its own sealing gasket. The main closure member lifts to relieve over-pressure in the cooling system whilst the auxiliary member 11 is unseated should suction build up in the system.
