Abstract

954,451. Meat trimmers. BETTCHER INDUSTRIES Inc. March 7, 1962, No. 8854/62. Heading A2U. A manually held and manipulated tool for cutting (Fig. 7) a strip or slice 24 from a slab of meat 18, e.g. trimming off fat, comprises a hollow handle 15 transmitting drive by a shaft 41 to rotate a pinion 40 the teeth of which engage gear teeth 37 on the base portion 35 of a frustoconical blade 12 of approximately 45 degrees taper having a circular cutting edge 13, Fig. 4, which may, if desired, be contiguous to a curved free end portion of the blade (Fig. 9, not shown), causing it to rotate. The blade is retained in position by a ring 14 having a groove 34 in which the blade base portion 35 is slidably engaged, Fig. 4, and by a springable portion 45b of a retaining sector member 45, a nut 48 being turned to hold or release the blade 12 as desired. Both ring 14 and sector 45 are fixed by screws 32, 46 respectively to a curved sector portion 28 of the handle 15, the ring being held in a groove 31 and the sector end 45a against adjustable top screws 49 which prevent hindrance of the free-rotation of the blade 12.
