Abstract

954,295. Block signalling systems. TYER & CO. Ltd. July 29, 1960 [Aug. 19, 1959], No. 28314/59. Heading B7N. In a block instrument signalling system using tokens for controlling traffic over a single line route, means are provided for preventing the extraction of a token from the instrument at the departure end of the block when standing currents from an extraneous source are present on the control wires connecting the instruments at the departure and arrival ends of the block. Assume a train has to be passed from a departure point A to an arrival point B, the operator at point A operates switch PA and applies battery XA1 to the control lines joining the instruments at the ends of the block. Relay ZB1 picks up and operates relay BB and the instrument at B indicates " line blocked." The operator at B, operates switch PB if he can accept the train, whereby relay ZB1 releases and relay CB picks up to hold BB. Indicator 1A at point A now indicates no current and the operator at A releases PA. The operator at B releases switch PB, relay BB releases but CB remains energized and the instrument displays " Train coming from A." The operator at B again operates switch PB whereby via a front contact of relay CB and a back contact of relay BB battery XB2 is applied to line and picks up both relay ZA1 and relay ZA2 at point A. Pick up of these relays energizes relays BA and DA and on release of switch PB at B relay BA releases but relay DA is held by a latch circuit including a front contact of relay PA and a back contact of BA. An electromagnetic device ML at point A is now energized to release a token, after which the instrument at A registers "Train going to B." In the event of extraneous current appearing on the control lines either relay ZB1 picks up to prevent the setting up of the " Train coming from A," condition or ZA1 picks up to prevent the establishment of a latch circuit for relay DA.
