Abstract

646,374. Automatic exchange systems. COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRICITE. Oct. 14, 1946, No. 30535. Convention date, May 2. [Class 40 (iv)] In an alternative rout ing system, traffic relays 1, 2 and 3, Fig. 2, operate at an exchange A when the traffic intensity in the arm AB of a net. work (Fig. 1) reaches 80, 90 and 100 per cent respectively. Relays 4, 5, 6 corresponding to arm AC, and the traffic is directed over the route carrying the least traffic. Marking wires B<SP>1</SP>, D<SP>1</SP> correspond to stations B, D and marking wires A<SP>1</SP>B<SP>1</SP>, A<SP>1</SP>C<SP>1</SP> correspond to junctions AB, AC. Relay 7 is controlled by the traffic relays 1 to 6 to direct calls for exchange D over junction AB or AC in accordance with the relative intensity of traffic on the two junctions. Relay 8 diverts calls for exchange B over junction AC when the traffic intensity on AB reaches 100 per cent and relay 3 operates. If the traffic on junction CD is heavy, a traffic regulating device at exchange C signals exchange A over conductor T to operate relays 9, 10. Relay 9 falls back at the end of the signal but 10 is held and relay 7 is disabled so that no further calls can be directed over junction AC. Relay 10 is released to free relay 7 when a further signal is sent by exchange C over T2 when the traffic on CD diminishes. Relay 14 operates to release 10 and the sender at C is released by a battery signal applied to conductor A. Exchange C. Similar traffic regulating equipment is installed at C. Heavy traffic on CD operates relay 6, relay 12 follows and a sender S is seized by ground on wire M. The sender S signals exchange A to operate relay 9 at A over conductor T. The sender also operates relay 13 and releases itself, but is seized again if the traffic falls and releases 6, 12. When the sender is seized a second time with 13 already operated, it signals exchange over conductor T2, operates relay 14 and is released by an acknowledgement signal from exchange A. Specification 23305/46, (as open to inspection under Sect. 91), is referred to.
