Abstract

953,579. Flexible tube pumps. D. K. BROOKS. April 10, 1962 [Jan. 10, 1961], No. 1041/61. Heading F1F. A flexible tube pump for pumping blood comprises two roller chains 8, 9 between which rollers 11 are mounted to progressively compress flexible tubes 23 and force the blood through them. The tubes are mounted on backing plates 21, the separation of each end of which from the path of the rollers 11 being varied by conical ended screws 22 (Fig. 1). The plates 21 are inclined to the path of the rollers so that pressure 17 applied to the tubes gradually, and may be bowed so that the roller pressure is both applied gradually and released gradually. The pump, which may pump different fluids at the same time is driven by an electric motor 15 (Fig. 2) through a variable speed drive 14.
