Abstract

952,565. Hydraulic transmission of power. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. Feb. 5, 1963 [March 19, 1962], No. 10346/62. Heading F2C. An hydrostatic transmission comprises a variable and reversible delivery pump C operating a variable capacity motor D, in which the pump and motor swashplates are actuated by follow-up double acting rams 11, 12, the ram valves 19, 20 being controlled by links 15, 16 extensible and compressible from their normal lengths and connected to lever arms 6, 7 simultaneously rotatable about a fixed pivot to operate the valves in a desired sequence. The lever arms 6, 7 are rotated by rack-andpinion mechanism 2, 3 and lever 1 such that the speed ratio is varied in a forward and reverse direction such that the pump swashplate angle is varied up to a maximum while the motor swashplate is maintained at maximum angle, followed by a reduction of the motor angle with maintainance of the pump angle at maximum as described in Specification 866,609. The maximum swashplate angles are determined by stops 21, 22, 23 which contact the valves 19, 20 of the servo-rams, the spring-loaded links 15, 16 allowing an over-centre movement corresponding to the neutral position, such that initial movement from the position first allows the link to return to normal length then to adjust the swashplate angle. The fluid for the rams may be derived from a fixed displacement pump, or from the transmission with or without a make-up pump, through a flow restriction. The rams may be fed in series or parallel.
