Abstract
992,074. Hydro-mechanical variable speed gear. SUNDSTRAND INTERNATIONAL CORPORATION S.A. March 12, 1962 [March 13, 1961], No. 839/64. Divided out of 992,070. Headings F2C and F2D. A hydro-mechanical variable-speed gear for a tractor comprises an output planet carrier 409 the planets 411 of which mesh an input sun 406 and a reaction ring gear 407 which latter is driven from the input shaft through an hydrostatic gear including variable displacement swashplate pump and motor units 376, 377. The speed of the output shaft 410 may be varied continuously from reverse through neutral to forward by adjusting the angle of the swash plates 382, 396. Cylinders 415, 416 pivoted at 417, 421 to the swash plates 382, 396 and movable on axially fixed pistons are continuously supplied with pressure liquid from an input driven make-up pump 438 and the exhaust from the cylinders at 425, 426 is throttled by a manually adjustable cam-shaped valve plate 431. Rotation of the plate 431 thus causes the cylinders to vary the angle of the swash plates. Make-up and cooling.-The pump 438 also delivers liquid in excess of that required for make-up purposes through check valves 447 loaded by springs and line pressure to the lowpressure line. The excess liquid forces heated liquid through ducts 454 to a shuttle valve 450 (also Fig. 3, not shown), which connects the low-pressure line to a relief valve 451. Highpressure surges are discharged from the highpressure line to the low-pressure line through a relief valve (Fig. 2, not shown). Specification 992,073 also is referred to.
