Abstract

In an electrostatic separator the electrodes of which are normally supplied with full-wave rectified but unsmoothed D.C., flashover during periods of liquid flushing is suppressed by switching the supply to half-wave rectified but unsmoothed D.C. The frequency of the supply is chosen to suit the conditions of flushing and is preferably between 2 and 50 cycles per second.
