Abstract
952,303. Railway vehicle bogies. AMSTED INDUSTRIES Inc. Jan. 2, 1963, No. 236/63. Heading B7L. A self-aligning, spring plankless railway bogie has side frames 2 each comprising tension and compression members 7, 6 connected by spaced columns 14 to form a window 16, the member 7 being of box section between columns 14 and having inboard and outboard shelves 27, 28, Fig. 2, on walls 24, 26, the shelves being below the top wall 22 and forming seats for four corner springs 51 and two middle springs 52 which support a bolster 3 which interconnects the frames 2. The top wall 22 carries a spring 53 which seats in a pocket 48 in bolster 3. Studs 36, 37, 38 for mounting springs 52, 53 are in line across the bogie. Wear plates 17 on columns 14 are engaged by friction shoes 18 in pockets in the bolster 3, the shoes being biased along inclined walls in the pockets by springs.
