Abstract

A photo-electric foul detector for use in a bowling alley comprises a light-sensitive resistor mounted at the bowling end of the alley and illuminated by a beam of light projected across the alley, above the foul line. The resistor is arranged in series with a relay, and when the beam of light is broken, the relay is de-energized and closes two switches, thereby operating a lamp and an audible signal, and simultaneously energizes a time switch which prolongs the illumination of the lamp after the relay has been re-energized. A capacitor in parallel with the relay serves to delay de-energization of the latter upon interruption of the light beam and thereby prevents operation of the foul-detector during passage of the ball past the beam.
