Abstract

1,030,192. Bowling alleys. AMERICAN MACHINE & FOUNDRY CO. Sept. 26, 1963 [Oct. 8, 1962], No. 37954/63. Heading A6D. A bowling alley comprises first means for determining the combination of pins remaining standing after the first ball of a frame, and second means responsive to said first means for indicating to the bowler the location at the approach end of the alley from which a ball should be rolled to knock down a maximum number of the pins remaining standing. As particularly described, the pins remaining standing after the first ball of a frame are computed, and indicated by illuminated spots 30 on an indicator board 16 above the playdeck 10, in the manner described in Specification 1,030,191, the computer and indicator board also co-operating to indicate by means of illuminated arrows on the latter, the optimum ball path for the second ball of the frame. The present apparatus further comprises a panel 18 of indicators 31 to 37 comprising lamps, each of which is wired in parallel with the lamps illuminating the corresponding arrow on the board 16, to give an indication of the lateral position at the approach end of the alley from which the optimum ball path indicated on the board should commence. The indicators on the panel 18 match markers 1 to 7 on the bed of the alley, and preferably corresponding arrows, indicators and markers are distinguished by colour. The markers 1 to 7 may be replaced by the lines L, LC, C &c. marked in Fig. 1.
