Abstract

951,666. Valves. CRANE CO. March 13, 1961, No. 9055/61. Heading F2V. A valve comprises a body having aligned inlet and outlet passages 7 with a central valve chamber therebetween, coaxial seating recesses 11 defined by inwardly extending annular projections at the ends of the passages, axially movable seat rings 8 in the recesses, a ported closure member 9 movable transversely of the passages to open and close the valve, shoulder portions 21 on the seat rings, and resiliently mounted rings 16 around the seat rings having inwardly directed flanges engaging the portions 21. Fluid pressure in the passages 7 acting on the outer ends of the seat rings 8 increases the pressure urging them against the closure member. Several coil springs 23 are tack welded to each ring 16 and abut annular washers 24 while each seat ring 8 is fluid sealed within its recess by an 0-ring 25 and carries, preferably by means of a dovetail attachment, a ring 26 of non-metallic and preferably ductile material. The closure member 9 is connected at 27 to the T-head of a stem 40 reciprocated manually or by motor or fluid-pressure means, the valve chamber being packed with lubricant by a grease gun. A threaded plug at the bottom of the chamber permits it to be drained and cleaned. Specification 752,228 is referred to.
