Abstract
951,604. Signalling, demarcation and like lights. MEINERS OPTICAL DEVICES Ltd. Feb. 29, 1960 [March 3, 1959; May 6, 1959 (2)], Nos. 7358/59, 15552/59 and 15553/59. Heading F4R. A lamp for producing a beam of great visual range e.g. for signalling, guiding and similar lights comprises a light source without a reflector behind it and a lens system for producing a substantially parallel-sided beam and power means for oscillating the beam or moving it orbitally to produce an effect of considerable divergence. In its simplest form, a light source 11, Fig. 1, which may be associated with a stop 13 is enclosed in a tube 12 and arranged so that the source or the stop is at the focus of a convex lens 14 so that a parallel beam is produced which falls on a mirror 17 oscillated by a lever 20 acted on by a cam 21. In alternative arrangements (a) the lamp is fixed and the housing 12 carrying the lens 14 is oscillated; (b) a revolving prism is interposed in the beam between the lamp 11 and the lens 14; (c) the lamp 11 or the stop 13 is reciprocated by a cam, the lens 14 being fixed; and (d) the lamp 11, Fig. 5, is arranged behind a central aperture in a concave mirror 27 opposite which is a mirror 28 carried by a magnet 29 mounted on a balljoint at 30 and oscillated by current passing through windings 31, the light reflected from the mirror 27 passing to the lens 14.
