Abstract

951,388. Centrifugal separators. MIXING & SEPARATING EQUIPMENT Ltd. Dec. 19, 1962 [April 11, 1962], No. 13975/62. Heading B2P. A centrifuge for treating liquids, e.g. coolant for machine tools, comprises a rotatable bowl 14 driven by a motor 12, 13 and containing a removable lining 25 of rubber or other flexible material and removable, radially directed baffle elements 26. The bowl forms the upper part of a rotor which is supported by means of bearings 16, 17 on a stationary shaft 11 mounted on the base of an open-topped casing 10 and carrying the motor field windings 12. Current is supplied through a cable 18. The casing 10 is resiliently suspended by coupling means 20 from the base of an outer casing 19 which is provided with a lid 23 carrying an inlet connection 24 for the liquid. A rubber ring 22 provides a seal between the casings 10, 19. In operation clarified liquid is discharged over the upper edge of the bowl into the casing 19 while sludge accumulates on the lining 25 which may be subsequently removed from the bowl after prior removal of the elements 26 when rotation of the bowl is stopped and the lid 23 is opened.
