Abstract

1506074 Centrifugal extracting M MEYER and D HEPP 3 June 1976 [3 June 1975] 22942/76 Heading A4E [Also in Divsion B1] A coffee making machine in which the beverage is extracted by centrifuging comprises a cyclindrical chamber 1 able to be rotated about a vertical axis and having a top opening 8 through which the coffee and boiling water may be charged and passages 5 in the cylindrical wall through which, the liquid infusion is forced out from the chamber by centrifugal action, the chamber 1 including a bottom part formed by a disc 3 which may be raised to eject spent coffee powder. As shown, the chamber 1 is mounted on a spindle 6 which rotates in bearings 7 when driven by an electric motor via a belt 9 and pulley 10. Upon rotation the coffee powder accumulates against the cyclindrical wall and, at a speed above 8000 r.p.m., the liquid infusion passes through the passages 5 into an annular collecting space 12 and via a conduit 13 into a vessel 15. The bottom 3 of the chamber 1 is connected by bolts 16 and paddel members 21 to a lid 2 and the bottom disc 3 and lid 2 may be lifted together above the chamber in order to eject the spent coffee powder 18 into a housing 17. A spindle 19 within the spindle 6 may be actuated by an electromagnet 20 to cause the raising of the bottom 3 and lid 2, and the electrical losses in the electromagnet 20 are said to be utilized to pre-heat the apparatus.
