Abstract
951,277. Ultrasonic flaw detection. J. OBRAZ. Nov. 28, 1961 [March 9, 1961], No. 42544/61. Heading H4D. In a pulse-echo flaw detection arrangement, a second transducer 2 is coupled to the test piece by a plate 4 of thickness equal to an integral number of half-wavelengths of the waves in the plate, the second transducer being fed with pulses of high-frequency energy and controlling the power fed to the operating transducer 2 or controlling the sensitivity of the receiver connected to the operating transducer. An oscillator 6 is gated from a synchronizer 5 and feeds transducer 2 at a carrier frequency such as to produce resonance in plate 4; variations in acoustic coupling to the test piece produce corresponding variations in the anode voltage of oscillator 6 and such changes, after limiting in unit 7 to increase dynamic range, control the screen grid of the output valve of generator 9 and hence its power output.
