Abstract

951,248. Photographic cameras. KODAK Ltd. Oct. 12, 1960 [Oct. 12, 1959], No. 34959/60. Heading G2A. In a photographic camera having a focusing type objective and a photo-electric device responsive to scene brightness, the focus of the objective is adjusted automatically by the photo-electric device as a function of scene brightness. As shown a lens focusing ring 50, exposure time setting ring 22 and diaphragm aperture setting ring 58 are all coupled together for common setting movement. Normally the setting ring is held in an end position corresponding to minimum aperture and exposure time by means of a lever 64 which is pivoted at 65 and engages an arm 60 under loading of a strong spring 66. On depression of a body release 72, coupled to the lever 64 by means of a pin and slot connection 70, 68, the setting rings rotate in an anti-clockwise direction under loading of a weak spring 62 until a stepped cam element 48 is arrested in a position determined-according to the ambient light level-by the pointer 18 of an exposure meter galvanometer 14, a fixed abutment surface 74 being provided against which the pointer is pressed. The adjustment of the lens focus is so arranged relative to the adjustment of the diaphragm that the near limit of the depth of focus is maintained substantially constant at about 4 feet, whilst the far limit moves from infinity towards the near limit as the diaphragm aperture is increased.
