Abstract

951,212. Developing units. RESEARCH LABORATORIES OF AUSTRALIA Ltd. March 13, 1961 [March 17, 1960], No. 9090/61. Heading G2A. A developer unit suitable for making xerographic prints comprises a nearly vertical sloping support 2, means such as clips 3 for holding the paper 5 against the support, a nozzle 10 at the top of the support and movable therealong to direct developer liquid over the support, a trough 7 at the bottom to receive the developer, and means for pumping it from the trough back again to the nozzle. The unit may be housed in a casing 1 having a hinged glass-panelled front cover 68. The lateral movement of the nozzle 10, as shown by the arrows in Fig. 2, is controlled by a lever 39 at the front of the unit. Thus the nozzle can be moved to and fro across the sheet 5, and stopped at any place where more intensive development is required. The support board 5 itself can also be given a limited oscillatory movement, to improve the evenness of the liquid flow. The liquid collecting in the trough 7 can be re-circulated through pipes 25, 30, and valve 26 back to the nozzle 10 by means of a pump 14. A branch pipe 33 leads back to the trough, and is controlled by a tap. When the tap is open, the liquid pumped from the trough through pipe 25 returns to it through pipe 33, but on closing the tap, the liquid then passes up pipe 30 to the nozzle. Thus adjustment of tap 34 controls the amount of liquid returned to the nozzle. Volatile vapours in the casing can be removed through opening 72.
