Abstract

950,757. Rotary elevators; load handling apparatus. HENRY WIGGIN & CO. Ltd. June 8, 1962 [June 12, 1961], No. 21148/61. Headings B8A and B8H. Apparatus for transferring a thin metal sheet 1 from a furnace 2 to a quenching tank 3 (Figs. 1, 2) comprises two parallel-motion linkages 6-9 of which links 7, 8, 9 can rotate as a whole around a shaft 5. Each linkage has a lifting member 11 provided with a horizontal upper surface which, when the members 11 move upward from below the slotted roof 18 of the furnace, engages bars 17 supporting the sheet 1 and lifts the sheet. During rotation of the linkages, the sheet is not tilted and, on arrival at the quenching tank 3, the bars 17 are arrested by the sides of the tank. The lifting members 11 then continue their movement. The links 7, 8, 9 are driven through gear-wheels 12 fixed to the links 7, the wheels 12 being driven by wheels 13 on a shaft 14. This shaft carries a pinion 15 rotatable by a rack 16 which can be reciprocated by means not shown. The linkages may oscillate, or a ratchet may be provided to allow the rack to return and the linkages to turn through 360 degrees. In a modification, Fig. 3, each lifting member carries a roller 22 at the end of a short arm 23 and the lifting member is kept in a fixed angular position by a circular track 24 round which the rollers 22 run and which is eccentric to a rotary shaft 25 to which the arms 20 are fixed.
