Heading G6C. In a nuclear marine power plant, high and low pressure turbines are supplied with steam from a heat exchanger heated by steam from a boiling water reactor. A second heat exchanger between the high and low pressure turbines is supplied with high pressure steam from the main supply. For rapid shut down condenser and pump are provided in parallel with the turbines. Steam may be supplied to the reverse side of the high pressure turbine through an "astern" valve, which is normally held closed by air pressure, released when the "ahead" valves are closed, and which will "fail open". The second heat exchanger is provided with a "fail closed" valve and a valve operated automatically by the exhaust steam pressure of the high pressure turbine.
