Abstract

In a nuclear power plant which uses the reactor coolant gas, C0 2 to heat the turbine working fluid, the latter may be either steam or freon gas. In one embodiment, Fig. 2, the reactor coolant gas heats two separate supplies of water, the hotter of which is received in the lower reservoir 5, Fig. 2, while cooler enters the upper chamber 3. The flexible partition 6, separates 3 and 5, the reservoir 5 is thus under pressure and vapourization of the contained water is prevented. The water from 3 and 5 is vapourized in the expansion chambers 7 and 10 which supply the turbines 12 and 13 respectively. In a further embodiment, Fig. 3, the coolant gas from reactor 15 heats feon, which is received in tanks 17 and is supplied to the turbine 19 through the expansion valves 18. Alternatively, a third heat storage medium, for example potassium and sodium nitrates or nitrites may be interposed between the reactor coolant gas and the freon.
