Abstract

950,701. Guiding screen wires. LODDING ENGINEERING CORPORATION. Jan. 9, 1962, No. 803/62. Heading D2A. A deflector for the screen wire of a Fourdrinier machine consists of a flexible board 54, 56 with means provided to adjustably flex it so as to present an arc shaped configuration to the screen wire. The board preferably comprises a smooth surfaced plate 54 made of material known under the Registered Trade Mark "Teflin", on a flexible plate of a suitable metal or plastic. The board is supported by a transverse member 18 engaging against a stop 58 on the board and a loosely mounted plate 52 engaging against a similar stop 60. Plate 52 is supported and controlled by hoses 48, 50 so that when one is inflated the plate is forced to rotate about a fulcrum 44 and so flex the board 54, 56. An adjustable stop 34 is provided to limit the flexing effect produced. The transverse member 18 has at its ends a supporting plate 20 (see Fig. 1) each end of which has a flange carrying adjusting screws 28, 30 and a clamping screw 24 so that the inclination as well as the curvature of the board with respect to the wire may be varied. In a further form (see Figs. 6, 7, 8 not shown) the plate 52 is replaced by a spring plate fixed at one end while the friction of the other end (and therefore the flexing of the board) is controlled by the degree of inflation of a single hose. The deflectors are formed with sharp edges 62 to scrape the underside of the wire while the trailing part of the deflector when curved downwardly to the rear, may provide a desirable suction effect. If sagging of the wire occurs, e.g. after the breast roll, the deflection immediately following this sagging may be forwardly inclined so as to make tangential contact with the curving path of the wire. Also provided (see Fig. 1) are a suction box A, a breast roller doctor B; white water collecting pans C and a screen wire shower D. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 905,257.
