Abstract

950,580. Disc brakes. GIRLING Ltd. March 4, 1960 [Dec. 6, 1958], No. 39396/58. Heading F2E. In an hydraulic disc brake assembly having friction pads applied to opposite faces of a brake disc by pistons working in opposed hydraulic cylinders 14, 17 in a fixed caliper 10, 11 which straddles a portion of the disc, liquid is fed into a cylinder in one limb of the caliper through a connection 13 and the outer ends of the cylinders are connected by at least two intersecting inclined passageways 15, 16 and a further passageway 19 inclined to the two passageways 15, 16 and intersecting one of them to provide a bleed port. Preferably the caliper is formed in two complementary halves 10, 11 secured together by bolts 12 and the interconnecting passageways 15, 16 are sealed at 18 by an annular seal. In a modification shown in Fig. 5 the flared end of a cranked tube 23 is fitted into the outer end of passage 15 and a smaller diameter portion of the tube extends through the passage 16 to its junction with the cylinder 17.
