Abstract

950,499. Rope suspensions. E. A. DAVIES. Oct. 19, 1962 [Oct. 20, 1961], No. 37778/61. Heading F2S. A rope suspension comprises a white metal rope socket having an upper part 4 of square section and a cylindrical lower part provided with at least two flat surfaces to slidingly co-operate with an aperture of smaller diameter than the length of one side of the socket upper part. The aperture is formed in a vertically divided base plate 17 which is bolted to supporting girders 19, 20. The upper part of the socket and a screwed rod 8 attached thereto are located within and supported by a vertical, helical compression spring 11 which is in turn supported by the base plate. In the construction shown the lower nut 14 of the screwed rod 8 bears upon a bearing 13 housed in a frusto conical part of an end cap 10 of the spring 11. The screwed rod is pivotally attached to two lugs 6 of the upper part of the socket by a pin 9.
